Black Panther
Could there be a black panther in Michigan?
I think I may have seen a black panther in my backyard (I live in Davison). From what i read about them, it doesn’t sound possible but If it wasn’t one, what else could it be? It was definetly a cat, it was obviously black and it was the size of a bullmastif. HELP!
Panther is another common name of Puma concolor, known to most people as mountain lion, cougar, or puma. There are documented cases of melanism in cougars and when this happens the animal is usually refered to as a black panther. The chance of seeing a black panther in Michigan would be extremely low. Melanism is very rare in cougars and cougars are very rare in Michigan. Only you can say exactly what you saw.
